Run Diary Week 10

Monday 4th June 2007

Better weather today, and it does feel surreal to be talking about a countdown to one week’s time in New York on the 11th June. Very motivated to meet this ever more demanding schedule, so Hancock for tonight’s stop (47 miles).

Tuesday 5th June 2007

Martin began the day in Hancock, by 2:30 pm he had reached Hagerstown and it was a fine day with temperatures in the 70’s. After visiting Maryland for a short time in the afternoon, Martin crossed back into Pennsylvania, eventually finishing at Waynesboro. The total miles covered today were 40 miles.

Wednesday 6th June 2007

Martin stopped for his break at Gettysburg, which is a famous battle site. The battle of Gettysburg recorded more casualties than any other American civil war battle and was also considered a turning point in the war. He continued after midday in conditions similar to yesterday, doing 20 miles more than in the schedule to reach York for the overnight stop.

Thursday 7th June 2007

Martin called us from Lancaster at 11:30 am his time and informed us that his night stop would be Reading. According to him, route 222 was hair-raising going into Reading and subsequently the same coming out. He compares this route to the M25 and has had to ignore several no pedestrian signs along the way

Friday 8th June Reading to Easton PA. Long day arriving at the Quality Inn in Easton at around 9 pm.

Saturday 9th June. Easton PA to Orange County (Best Western) New Jersey arriving even later (around 10 pm) after a 65 mile day to give me a good chance of arriving in New York City on Sunday

Sunday 10th June. Left Orange County at 5 am to avoid heavy traffic into New York. Crossed the George Washington bridge around 10:30 am and arrived at Columbus circle at 11:50 am. The run is finally over and I am looking forward to a few days sight seeing in New York before returning home.
