Run Diary Week 4

Monday 23rd April 2007

Martin rang us at 10 am his time as he was about to set off for Vernal. This should be a relatively easy day at around 30 miles, which is just as well, as he must face running in his new shoes today.

Tuesday 24th April 2007

Today was the last day’s running in Utah, as the next planned stop is Dinosaur, Colorado. Jacques Cazier paid his last visit to Martin, which involved a long drive from Spring city, bearing gifts of food and sunscreen. Thanks once again for such great support in your home state. Tonight Martin was able to get the last room at the terrace motel to his relief.

Wednesday 25th April 2007

The weather was feeling warm and sunny, as Martin set off, and he was expecting to camp out at the half way point to Craig, the next town. However, it turned out that there was accommodation at Maybell, although this did involve a 57-mile day! The bonus is a shorter day tomorrow, heading into Craig, where Martin hopes to gain Internet access to see his messages and possibly send some more photos.

Thursday 26th April 2007

My Mum is still in shock having watched me upload the latest photos, is that really a toe?? Gathering our thoughts, Martin phoned at 5:30 pm his time (very late our time), and was already in Craig as he’d had a 35 mile day i.e. a short one. He was able to access the internet, send photos and messages, and stock up on supplies. Fairly budget motel provides the accommodation for tonight.

Friday 27th April 2007

I spoke to my Dad today and he was 25 miles from Steamboat springs. Luckily, he was offered accommodation so he might have a nice meal to look forward to, home cooked for once! It was a perfect day for running weather wise: warm and sunny. A reporter at the town’s local paper ran a story on Martin’s trip, he has had a number of messages of support from the local paper. He will be crossing the continental divide tomorrow and is pushing on towards Denver.

Saturday 28th April 2007

Martin ran from Steamboat Springs to Kremmling today, which was 48 miles long and had some company on the way. Three locals joined him to run and in general he received a lot of attention. He reached a height of 9400 feet on Rabbit ears pass.

Sunday 29th April 2007

It was a long day today. He covered 45 miles from Kremmling to Winter Park.
