Run Diary Week 9
Monday 28th May 2007
Crossed the border into Ohio (9th state) straight after leaving Richmond this morning. This turned into a very long day, as Martin was running till 9pm when he reached Springfield (miles covered 63), then did some washing at the motel, only to be kept waiting till midnight for the drier.
Tuesday 29th May 2007
Today Martin reached the east side of Columbus, which is a very busy city, covering 45 miles in total. It had been threatening thunder and it was still very warm.
Wednesday 30th May 2007
9 weeks ago today, Martin flew out to L.A. He phoned at 3:30 local time, a little way out of Zanesville, reporting it was very hot (about 80 F). The website has now had over ten thousand visitors.
Thursday 31st May 2007
We had a call 10am local time when Martin was at Cambridge. He is feeling the pressure to keep to schedule now that we are on the verge of booking our flights. He is governed by motel availability now that he has sent back his tent and sleeping bag with Laurence. He is actually glad of the weight reduction, as it has been surprisingly hilly. Reached Morristown, we are not sure of the exact mileage but approx. 50.
Friday 1st June 2007
This must be the first and only day where Martin spent time in 3 different states during the day! Beginning in Morristown, Ohio and during the afternoon ran through what could be described as a finger of northwest West Virginia. He ended the day in Washington, Pennsylvania. West Virginia’s irregular shape means 12 states will have been visited.
Saturday 2nd June 2007
Martin reached Uniontown today. Martin has informed us that George Marshall, a well-known American military leader, who was influential in the planning of the Normandy and D-day invasion was born here. It was 99 Deg F today, which is possibly the hottest day so far. Those freezing nights in Nevada must seem a long way off now.
Sunday 3rd June 2007
A very long day, which started at a reasonable 75 deg F., which actually felt cold, as it was 24 degrees cooler than yesterday. Very heavy rain this afternoon and this evening. Crossed the southern border of Pennsylvania into Maryland (avoiding another interstate) and finished at Frostburg around 10pm. A tiring 54 miles.
